Bad news: His former Vikings teammate Randy Moss is already over retirement and plotting his return in 2012. That’s right, the Pro Bowl and likely Hall of Fame wide receiver is ready to return to pro football, according to his video chat on UStream on Monday, also his 35th birthday. “I wanna play football,” Moss said. “Your boy is going to come back here and play some football, so I’m really excited. I had some things I had to adjust in my life.” Moss confirmed his desire to return to pro football on Twitter, saying: “Now back to biz!! There’s good an bad an u have to b ready for both! its in gods hand now.” Monday’s news comes more than six months after Moss walked away following the worst season of his otherwise stellar, 13-year career. Despite the lack of production in 2010, Moss shocked much of the sports world when he announced his retirement Aug. 1 in a one-sentence statement via his agent, Joel Segal: “Randy has weighed his options and considered the offers and has decided to retire.” So either teams are interested again (Patriots?), or Moss has exorcised some personal demons or just plain needs money. And it’s uncertain if any teams would be willing to take a gamble on Moss, who finds himself searching for a place to play not unlike another outspoken former Pro Bowl receiver in Terrell Owens. (And guess what two receivers are tied for second on the career touchdown receptions list with 153?) Moss’ brilliant but bumpy path in the NFL concluded with a 2010 season that saw him traded from the New England Patriots to the Minnesota Vikings, then released and picked up by the struggling Tennessee Titans. He finished the year with just 28 catches for 393 yards with five touchdowns, but no explanation was given for lack of the production or retirement for that matter. Instead, Moss walked away from the game with gaudy career numbers that included 954 receptions for 14,858 yards and 153 touchdowns. He is fifth all-time in receiving yards and ninth in receptions, and it appears he’ll be adding to those totals in 2012 if somebody’s willing to give him another chance. And if he shows anywhere near that 4.3-speed he displayed in his record-breaking season with the Patriots, teams like the Jets, Ravens or Rams might give him a shot. But for those worried about Favre coming out of retirement, again, have no fear, the official website of Favre’s page title still proclaims it’s the “Official Website of Brett Favre – Retired NFL Quarterback.” Favre officially filed his retirement papers with the NFL offices in Jan. 2011 and has thankfully made little noise since walking away from the game. Let’s hope Moss’ comeback talk doesn’t give Favre any bright ideas.
