Well, it’s true, sort of, as A-Rod moved into the Top 5 for most home runs in Major League history on Friday at Boston’s Fenway Park, passing Ken Griffey Jr. and his 630 career bombs. A-Rod’s home run in the Yankees’ win over the Red Sox was his 631st, moving him into fifth place all-time behind Willie Mays (660). But with two of the top five home run kings linked to performance-enhancing drugs, do we even care about these numbers anymore? When Hank Aaron hit his 715th to pass Babe Ruth and become the real home run king, that was a milestone. But when ESPN flashed the headline “A-Rod HR Milestone” on Friday, I couldn’t help but laugh, considering those numbers are so inflated it’s tough to know where to start. Just like nearly the entire San Francisco portion of all-time home run leader Barry Bonds’ career. So what do we do with this all-time home run list below. Do we add asterix next to Bonds and A-Rod. Bonds never did fail a test, and, somehow, A-Rod was never really penalized for his use, so as it stands the list looks like this: Barry Bonds 762 Hank Aaron 755 Babe Ruth 714 Willie Mays 660 Alex Rodriguez 631 If you ask me, that list doesn’t look right. And to think commissioner Fork Frick once demanded Roger Maris’ 61 home runs in 1961 be tagged with an asterisk. Well, maybe if Bud Selig had a backbone, that all-time home run list would look something more like … Barry Bonds 762* Hank Aaron 755 Babe Ruth 714 Willie Mays 660 Alex Rodriguez 631* * Used PEDs Tags: a rod, babe ruth, bonds, giants, hank aaron, home runs [Back to MLB](https://ballhyped.net/category/mlb/) MLB more reports ### [Baseball Writers Accurate or Agenda Driven?](https://ballhyped.net/2012/12/baseball-writers-accurate-or-agenda-driven/) This is the time that a lot of baseball fans and critics have been waiting on.
