We all know the controversy that went on with the Bradley/Pacquiao fight. After some time has passed and all of the negative baggage from that fight has been absorbed, there is more turmoil. The Olympics are underway in London, which usually makes for some good forecasting into boxing’s future. Legends such as Roy Jones (with even more controversy), Joe Frazier, and Oscar De La Hoya all performed and won medals at the Olympics. While it cannot be foreseen if any of this Olympic’s participants will be stars in the near or distant future, it can be noted that the system they participated in was atrocious and horrible to say the very least! There was a fight where a fighter continuously went to the canvas, 6 times to be exact, and still somehow won the round and the fight. Of course, it was later overturned but what a shame. Even if it was only an initial shame, its more than just a black eye. Quite damaging to anything “Olympic” and “boxing”. Not sure where the competition goes from here, or if it even goes at all, but some changes are obviously needed. Can we at least get some credible refs? I would comment on the judges but I think I’ve spoken enough ill about boxing judges. Meanwhile, back home, is it just me or does it seem that there is a lot of wasted viewer stock in Amir Khan and Victor Ortiz? These are two great fighters that have both taken enormous steps back. They both have the talent and drive (we think) to make those comebacks and return to their previous status. Its quite unfortunate for both, given their previous situations. Khan, lost a fight to someone who tested positive for PEDs and Ortiz lost a fight while apologizing. Been somewhat of a downward spiral since those incidents. However, I do think there can still be a golden future for both in the sport of boxing, I am not sure if it will happen. Maybe the two should just fight each other. Winner progresses and loser, well that guy, loses. Together they had bright, radiant talent but now they shine so far away from a status of “gold”.
