Wings Beat Record

Wings Beat Record

The Detroit Red Wings have beaten the 20  home wining streak record last Tuesday when they beat the Dallas Stars at home 3-1.   Since they have beaten the previous record set by The Boston Bruins and the Philadelphia Flyers ,who shared the record of 20 straight wins, they are now the only team to ever win 21 games in one season at home. Which is pretty impressive, and it doesn’t look like the Wings are going to stop there. They clearly have been dominating the...

Hockey For Dummies: Penalties

This week for the installment of Hockey for Dummies, I will be discussing penalties in hockey. First off penalties in hockey are placed into two different categories, Team penalties and Individual penalties. When the whistle is blown for a team penalty this usually results in a face off either in the the penalized team’s defensive zone or in the neutral zone. This depends on what the type of penalty it is. As for individual penalties a specific player does something that they are put in the penalty box or sin...

Wings For The Cup?

Wings For The Cup?

While the Rangers are taking care of business on the East Coast, the Detroit Red Wings are on fire right now. They just got the go for the Winter Classic next year, in which they are hosting and are leading the entire league with 78 points.  If that wasn’t enough for them, the Wings haven’t lost in their home arena since November. Last night they edged the visiting Philadelphia Flyers in a 3-4 hockey victory to log their 20th straight home win. OK all...

Detroit Gets the Winter Classic Location

Detroit Gets the Winter Classic Location

Well kind of. The Detroit Red Wings are set to host the 2013 Winter Classic game against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor.  With how popular the past Classic game between the Flyers and the Rangers were this past January, the NHL is realizing how important the game really is the fans. The 2013 game will also give more fans access to the highly anticipated game but even with 115,000 available seats, the NHL thinks this will not be enough to meet...

Hockey For Dummies: Hat Trick Edition

As the senior, and only NHL blogger here on the BallHyped News Network, I feel like it is my duty to educate our readers (and some of my fellow bloggers) who may not be as familiar with the sport of ice hockey.  I have written a blog like this before, but I plan to make Hockey For Dummies, a weekly blog where I will be discussing different aspects of the games in detail in hopes to gather some more fans for my favorite sport. This week,...

Hockey In America

Hockey In America

So with football season over, what are American sports fans going to tune into now? Well, baseball, I guess, but if you’re like this blogger, you need something a bit more hard hitting. That’s where the NHL comes in. Football is a hard hitting game with all the tackling that goes on, but I think one of the reasons that I have never latched onto the sport so much is because of the excessive amount of stoppage of plays.  Don’t get me wrong, I...

Rangers Wreck The East

Rangers Wreck The East

It sometimes astounds me how different the NHL standings are from season to season. Last season The New York Rangers were beaten out in the first round of the playoffs by the top seeded Philadelphia Flyers, but this season the tables have slightly turned for both the Eastern Conference contenders.  The Rangers have been on top of the conference since the season started, and one of the reasons why this is comes in the form of that wall of a man that is front...

Hockey Gives Back

Hockey Gives Back

One of the things that is great about the NHL is the amount of charity work that the organization as a whole and various clubs chose to do. Not that other leagues do not also participate in charity drives, but hockey has been doing a lot of good things in this aspect in recent years. The NHL even has their own green initiative  which that are starting to get recognized for since they have been picked as the Best Sport for The Environment by Beyond Sport....

Is Sidney Crosby Done For?

Is Sidney Crosby Done For?

There must be something in the water in Pennsylvania, because both hockey teams are still without their most dominating players. For the Flyers they have made their peace with a Pronger-less Flyers season, although it means that the team is without their captain on the ice. The other Flyers have stepped up their game to keep the team within the standings, much like Malkin and Neal have been doing for their rivals. Unfortunately for Philadelphia’s fiercest rival across the Susquehanna River The Pens are dealt with...

Team Chara Takes the All Star Victory

Team Chara Takes the All Star Victory

The All star game concluded tonight with a 12-9 win for Team Chara. Yes, you read those numbers correct. With the best players in the league pitted against each other the high scoring game was highly anticipated and expected. The first period started off strong for Team Chara with an early goal  by Marian Gaborik followed quickly by a goal from Evegni Malkin. The blue team seemed to be on fire as they shot pucks past Henrik Lundqvist five minutes later with a 3rd...
